Acting Responsibly
Jennifer has just moved to New Bern, NC. She wants to be a responsible citizen. She know that there are consequences to her actions. A CONSEQUENCE is what happens because of what a person does.
Jennifer is responsible and respectful. There are consequences for her actions. She helps her family set and clear the dinner table. She helps so the job is done faster. It is not fair the mom or dad has to do all of the work. What would make that fair? Jennifer also raises her hand to answer questions at school. This way she takes a turn for the teacher to call on her. Jennifer does not want to hog all the attention. She also looks both ways before crossing the street. By waiting, she stays safe from traffic.
What if Jennifer did not help set or clear the table? If would take longer to get the job done. In class, Jennifer knows that children who do not raise their hands may not be called on or will break the rules. Jennifer also knows that if she crosses the street without looking both ways, she could get hurt. Knowing the consequences of her actions helps Jennifer be responsible.
